Based on the popular Managing the Waterway format, MTW:KEYS adds a new Land & Sea Navigation section with 90 pages of annotated NOAA charts mated with annotated County street maps. Includes 520 GPS waypoints; over 300 marine facilities, anchorages, and moorings; 135 photos and illustrations; 103 charts and maps; 77 Florida Keys cruising tips; 194 interpretive vignettes; and over 600 websites and telephone numbers.
Standard features of the MTW series remain, including detailed mile-by-mile navigation coverage; the page-specific Rolling Header; Waterway Business Cards; and interpretive vignettes on local history, wildlife, and culture. Several new features include:
Annotated NOAA Charts—Full NOAA chart coverage from Miami to the Dry Tortugas. Annotations visually locate waypoints and routes; marinas, moorings, and anchorages; dive and snorkel sites; dead reckoning lights; and other marine features.
Annotated Street Maps—From Miami to Key West, county street maps visually locate 256 shoreside services in 19 categories including grocery stores, hardware stores, marine stores, full-service banks, coin-operated laundries, and propane. For all crew health needs—including the ship’s dog or cat—hospitals, pharmacies, and animal hospitals are also shown.
Mirrored Land & Sea Spreads—Each two-page spread mirrors an annotated NOAA chart with an annotated street map. Need a particular service such as a post office or pharmacy? Use the mated chart to locate a marina or anchorage within walking distance of these services. Enjoy staying at a particular marine resort and wonder what is nearby? Use the corresponding map to identify services and attractions near your overnight moorage.
Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary (FKNMS) Dive & Snorkel Sites—Includes detailed listings for 41 FKNMS mooring sites to access the reef for snorkeling, diving, or fishing. Each listing contains the number of moorings, site depths, and an electronic and descriptive locator. Locations are shown on the annotated charts.
“Varsity-Level” Navigation Additions—Detailed attention to several navigation challenges of the Keys, such as crossovers between Florida Bay and the Atlantic; approach waypoints to locate these often-inconspicuous cuts and channels; waypointed routes for Hawk Channel and the Dry Tortugas; routes to Southwest Florida; and locations of dead reckoning lights, high visibility nav aids to confirm position and piloting progress in the low-lying landscape of the Florida Keys.
